Sandhya Shantaram  is an Indian actress born in 1938. She is best known for her appearances in various Hindi and Marathi films directed by her husband V. Shantaram, in 1950s-1960s, most notably Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje (1955), Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1958), Navrang (1959), Marathi film Pinjra (1972) and Amar Bhoopali 


Career


Sandhya was found by V. Shantaram when he was looking for new faces to project for his film Amar Bhoopali (1951). The young lady didn't have extraordinary elements or ability, however what struck the movie producer was that she had a decent voice, one that unusually looked like that of his subsequent spouse, the entertainer Jayshree.[ She later wedded him after Jayshree left him. In 1952, Sandhya appeared as an entertainer in his Marathi film Amar Bhoopali in the job of a singer, the object of writer Honaji Bala's desire.She proceeded to highlight in a large portion of Shantaram's movies. In her next film High schooler Batti Scorch Raasta (1953), she played a devastated young lady named Kokila who is considered ugly in view of her brown complexion, yet who is furtively a radio star with a delightful performing voice. Like her name, she looked like the dark bird koel which sings flawlessly. For the job, Sandhya wore dim cosmetics.

As she had no proper dance preparing, she went through serious guidance in traditional dance from co-star Gopi Krishna for the film Jhanak Payal Baaje. The two play Kathak artists who are getting ready for a significant rivalry, yet face resistance from their dance master when they experience passionate feelings for. The film was extremely effective and proceeded to win four Filmfare Grants as well as the Public Film Grant for Best Element Film in Hindi. Sandhya featured inverse her better half in the film Do Aankhen Barah Haath, where she played Champa, a toy vender who captivates the superintendent and prisoners as she strolls outside their prison. In Navrang, she played the plain spouse of the protagonist, a writer, who makes a dream picture of her as his wonderful and erotic dream. The film contained the Holi melody "Arre Ja Re Hatt Natkhat", where Sandhya hits the dance floor with an elephant wearing moving ringers ghungroo.

She next featured in Stree (1961), a film rendition of Shakuntala's story from the Mahabharata. As the awe-inspiring notices that Shakuntala and her child Bharata lived in the wild among lions, Shantaram chose to remember genuine lions for certain scenes. Sandhya didn't have a twofold for these scenes; she arranged by shadowing a lion tamer and rehearsing in the enclosure with the lions.Sandhya's last significant job was in the Marathi rendition of Pinjra; her personality is that of a tamasha artiste who goes gaga for a teacher out to change her, played by Shriram Lagoo in his film debut.

In 2009, she showed up at the V. Shantaram Grants function to honor the 50th commemoration of Navrang
